Get in on the ground floor with a 3D printing career

Career Insight and Training

Last month, at the January meeting of the International Executive Resources Group, IERG, (Boston Chapter) the focus was all about 3D printng.  3D Printing Careers are and will continue to be on the rise, with forecasted growth to an estimated $8.4 billion dollars in the next decade or so.  Though many people still believe that the 3D concept can print trinkets from an expensive printer, the reality is that careers continue to grow in unexpected fields such as medical, food service, and construction.

Industries that readily benefit from 3D printing are aerospace, automotive, consumer goods, and electronics.  But the ever-evolving technology has already grown to encompass "printing" human organs using stem cells to the development of a new skin grafting method.  Dental and orthodontic devices as well as hearing aids are manufactured using 3D printing technology. There has even been science developed to "print" an edible slice of pizza, and in the area of pharmocology the possibilities are endless.

Not only will careers be available in operation, maintenance, and sales, but the 3D printer of the future may also be able to build homes, opening up a whole new construction, architectural design, and fabrication possibilities.  Other career opportunities will include CAD modeling, reseach and development, biological and scientific modeling, education, law, business, and operations.  And think of the possibilities in the arena of frachised 3D printing.  While chains such as Kinkos have captured the print and supply market, expect to see specialized franchises in 3D printing.
